About the Role
Drybar Wheaton is looking for a confident, driven, people-first Assistant Manager / Stylist & Floor Leader who can do more than deliver a great blowout.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a licensed stylist who loves being behind the chair but is also ready to help lead a team, drive performance, protect the client experience, and keep the shop running smoothly.
When the Operating Partner or Manager is not on the floor, you are one of the people the team looks to.
You’ll help set the tone, coach in the moment, solve problems quickly, celebrate wins, and make sure Drybar standards are being met from the first appointment of the day through close.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow in salon leadership while continuing to build their skills and clientele behind the chair.
WHAT YOU’LL OWN
Lead the Floor
- Serve as a visible floor leader and point person when senior leadership is not present
- Keep the team focused, productive, positive, and client-ready throughout the shift
- Delegate opening, closing, cleaning, restocking, and operational responsibilities
- Address issues in real time instead of allowing small problems to become bigger ones
- Lead by example in professionalism, punctuality, appearance, communication, and teamwork
- Help maintain appropriate floor coverage based on bookings and business needs
- Support schedule adjustments, breaks, call-offs, and shift coverage when needed
Deliver the Drybar Experience
- Perform consistent, high-quality Drybar blowouts and styles
- Work toward efficient service timing while never sacrificing quality or client care
- Create the kind of experience that turns first-time guests into repeat Buttercups
- Help ensure every client receives a warm welcome, thoughtful consultation, beautiful service, and strong checkout experience
- Support bridal, special occasion, textured-hair, and other specialty styling needs based on training and qualification
Drive Membership Growth
Barfly memberships are one of the most important drivers of our business.
You will:
- Confidently introduce memberships to eligible clients
- Help the team understand how to naturally talk about membership benefits
- Coach stylists and front desk team members on membership conversations
- Support membership conversion and retention goals
- Look for opportunities to reconnect with clients before they cancel or lapse
- Celebrate strong performers while helping coach those who need additional support
Grow Retail & Average Ticket
- Recommend Drybar products based on the client’s hair, style, and goals
- Introduce appropriate add-ons and upgrades during the appointment
- Help educate the team on product knowledge and selling without being pushy
- Coach toward stronger retail attachment and average-ticket performance
- Help keep retail displays stocked, organized, clean, and client-ready
Coach & Develop the Team
This is not a “stand behind the desk and supervise” position.
We expect our leaders to actively coach.
- Provide real-time feedback when you see opportunities
- Reinforce Drybar service and hospitality standards
- Help stylists improve speed, consultation skills, product recommendations, rebooking, and client retention
- Recognize strong performance and celebrate team wins
- Help identify training or continuing education needs
- Support newer team members as they move from training into confident floor performance
- Help create a culture where accountability and encouragement can exist at the same time
Protect the Client Experience
- Monitor client feedback, reviews, and in-shop concerns
- Step in quickly when a client experience is not going as expected
- Handle difficult conversations with professionalism and good judgment
- Work to resolve concerns before they escalate whenever possible
- Communicate recurring client or operational issues to leadership
- Help maintain a clean, polished, welcoming environment throughout the shop
Represent Drybar Wheaton in the Community
We want Drybar Wheaton to be visible beyond our four walls.
You may:
- Represent the shop at local events, pop-ups, school programs, partnerships, and community activations
- Help turn event traffic into future appointments and memberships
- Build relationships with nearby businesses and organizations
- Support promotional days, membership events, model calls, and in-shop experiences
- Be comfortable speaking about Drybar, our services, and what makes our Wheaton shop special
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Active Illinois cosmetology license required
- 2+ years of experience behind the chair preferred
- Previous salon leadership, assistant manager, shift lead, educator, or team lead experience strongly preferred
- Strong blowout and styling skills
- Confidence coaching peers and holding others accountable
- Ability to lead without needing constant direction
- Comfortable discussing memberships, retail products, add-ons, and rebooking
- Excellent client communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize during busy shifts
- Reliable, organized, and solution-oriented
- Comfortable reviewing performance numbers and helping the team work toward goals
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, events, and peak business periods
THE MINDSET WE WANT
You notice the towels need to be folded — you handle it.
You see a client waiting too long — you find out why.
You hear a stylist struggling with a membership conversation — you coach them.
You notice the energy on the floor dropping — you help reset it.
You see an opportunity to make the shop better — you speak up.
We are looking for someone with an owner’s mindset, even if your name isn’t on the lease.
